Great turnout for “Mou peça i fes colla!”

The Lleida Festa Major 2026 gave us a day to remember. The activity “Mou peça i fes colla!”, organised by Club d’Escacs Balàfia, turned chess into an open, joyful and participatory meeting point.

Throughout the morning, the chessboards moved out into the street and brought together children, adults and seniors in a festive, friendly and intergenerational atmosphere. There were games, smiles, concentration, learning and, above all, a great desire to share a special day around chess.

This activity was part of the official Lleida Festa Major 2026 programme, where it was presented as a street chess event designed to share games, laughter and a good atmosphere with people of all ages.

At Club d’Escacs Balàfia, we would like to thank everyone who came along to play, watch, ask questions or simply enjoy the atmosphere. Every game helped show that chess is much more than a sport: it is also community, culture, education and connection.

We would especially like to thank Ajuntament de Lleida and Diputació de Lleida for their support and sponsorship. Their collaboration makes activities like this possible. Without it, bringing chess closer to the public and making it visible in open city spaces would be much more difficult.

We also want to thank all the club members who helped with the preparation, setup, organisation and running of the event. Their involvement was essential to making the day such a success.

We are also delighted that the activity received coverage in the press, helping to give more visibility to chess, to the club and to the work being done from Balàfia to promote this sport throughout Lleida.

We will continue working to help chess grow in the neighbourhood of Balàfia and across Lleida.

Because every game matters, every player counts and every move helps our sport grow stronger.
