The Chess Masterclass Returns to Lleida: Learn from Grandmaster Herminio Herraiz!
The must-attend event for all chess lovers in Lleida is here! Club d’Escacs Balàfia is incredibly honored to present the 2025 Chess Masterclass, led by one of the most respected names in Spanish chess: Grandmaster (GM) Herminio Herraiz.
Following the resounding success of the last three editions, we are back stronger than ever on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM, at the Sala d’Actes del Centre Cívic Balàfia (Lleida).

Do you want to understand chess on another level? GM Herminio Herraiz has designed an intensive morning focused on two crucial topics for any player, regardless of their level:
- Reaction in chess: Learn to anticipate, respond, and seize the initiative against your opponent’s plans.
- “Practical” play in chess: Master decision-making under pressure, time management, and how to convert theoretical advantages into real victories.
This is a unique opportunity in Lleida to receive direct training from an elite player, open to all participants, both young and old!
Who is GM Herminio Herraiz?
It’s not every day you get the chance to learn from a Grandmaster with the career of Herminio Herraiz. A former Spanish Junior Champion (famously defeating the legendary Paco Vallejo), Spanish University Champion, and a member of the 2004 Spanish Olympic Team, GM Herraiz is not only an exceptionally strong player (peak Elo 2520) but also a renowned author and a teacher with a deep background in mathematics. His ability to break down complex concepts is what makes his classes so valuable.
