Four C.E. Balàfia players take part in the XXVIII Igor H. Flórez Memorial in Mollerussa
On Saturday, May 16, Club Escacs Balàfia took part in the XXVIII Igor H. Flórez Memorial, a chess tournament organized by Club d’Escacs Mollerussa as part of the Mollerussa Festa Major.
The event brought together 77 players for a great morning of chess, with a very positive atmosphere and a strong presence of young boys and girls. It was an excellent opportunity to enjoy chess, share experiences and continue promoting the game across the Lleida region.
C.E. Balàfia was represented by four players:
- Miguel Ángel Vicente Oliva
- Mohammad Amin Piltan
- Antonio García Giné
- Rodrigo Bermúdez Monlleó
All four players competed in a 7-round rapid chess tournament, a format where every move, every second and every decision can make the difference.

Although we did not win any trophies this time, the experience was very positive. The tournament was a great first contact with competitive rhythm ahead of the 2026 Lleida Rapid Chess Circuit, helping our players prepare for the upcoming events.
Beyond the results, we would like to highlight the excellent atmosphere throughout the morning. The large number of young participants made the tournament especially lively and showed once again that grassroots chess continues to grow strongly in Lleida.
We also appreciated the organization’s kind gesture of offering coca with chocolate for breakfast, which made the morning even more enjoyable for players and families.
From Club Escacs Balàfia, we would like to thank Club d’Escacs Mollerussa for organizing the XXVIII Igor H. Flórez Memorial and for creating such a welcoming, well-organized and inclusive chess event.
