Online chess classes with Grandmaster Herminio Herraiz continue this September
A chess game is not won simply by knowing more moves. It is won by learning how to understand positions, identify your opponent’s plans and make better decisions when the game becomes complicated.
From 15 September, Club Escacs Balàfia will continue its online training programme with Grandmaster Herminio Herraiz, offering players an exceptional opportunity to train regularly with one of Spain’s leading chess professionals.
The sessions will take place every Tuesday from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. via Zoom, with a maximum of eight participants.
High-level chess training from home
Maintaining a regular training routine is not always easy. Work, studies, family responsibilities and travelling time can often push chess into the background.
That is why the online format is one of the main advantages of this programme.
Joining the classes from home saves travelling time, supports a better work-life and family balance, and makes it easier to combine chess training with each participant’s professional or academic schedule.
All you need to do is prepare your board, connect to Zoom and be ready to think.
The best training is not only the training that provides high-quality content. It is also the training that can be followed consistently and adapted to each player’s personal circumstances.
Learn from an experienced Grandmaster
Herminio Herraiz earned the title of International Master in 1999 and became a Grandmaster in 2009. In 2014, FIDE also awarded him the title of FIDE Trainer, recognising his experience as a high-level chess coach. His highest published rating is 2520.
Among his most notable achievements is winning the Spanish Junior Chess Championship in 1998.
His career also includes outstanding results in university competitions, third place in the 2002 Spanish Chess Championship and representing Spain in major international events, including the European Team Chess Championship and the 2004 Chess Olympiad in Calvià.
However, titles tell only part of the story. His ability to explain complex ideas clearly, analyse mistakes in depth and teach players how to think in a structured way makes his classes especially valuable for anyone looking to take their game to the next level.
What will the classes cover?
The aim is not to memorise moves without understanding them. The programme focuses on developing practical skills that players can use in competition:
- Game analysis and identification of recurring mistakes.
- Strategy and positional understanding.
- Calculation and decision-making.
- Creating effective plans.
- Practical management of complex positions.
- Tournament preparation and improvement of chess thinking.
The small-group format allows for more personal, interactive training adapted to the real needs of the participants.
Who are the classes for?
The group is mainly intended for federated or tournament players who already have a solid chess foundation and want to deepen their understanding of the game.
The group will be limited to eight players, helping to maintain an active learning environment and provide high-quality individual attention.
Training is also available for less experienced players
Are you just starting to play? Are you looking for lessons for a child or an adult with less chess experience?
Club Escacs Balàfia can also provide information about other groups and training options that are more suitable for beginners or improving players.
