Chronicle of an Unforgettable Street Chess Day on Lleida’s Festa Major 2025
On May 11th, 2025, right in the heart of Lleida’s Festa Major, the Rambla Ferran, just in front of the Post Office, transformed into a lively chessboard full of strategy, focus, and great vibes, thanks to the street chess event organized by the Club d’Escacs Balàfia.
From 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM, the chess boards were in constant use: not a single free chair or empty board. Both kids and adults filled the space with exciting matches, sharing moves, smiles, and intense stares. The main attraction was without a doubt the giant chess board, which caught everyone’s eye and invited people to play in a fun and unique way.
The weather held up… almost until the end. A sudden downpour forced us to pack everything up quickly, but not even the rain could dampen the energy of a morning that will remain in many people’s memories.
