Winter Social Tournament – Escacs Balàfia 2026
The Escacs Balàfia Chess Club welcomes the 2026 season with its Winter Social Tournament, a special event that brings together competition, community and club spirit. The tournament will take place on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, starting at 5:00 pm, at the Balàfia Civic Centre in Lleida.
This event is open to members of the Escacs Balàfia Chess Club as well as members of the Balàfia Neighbourhood Association, who may participate free of charge. Other interested players must request a prior invitation by sending an email to escacsbalafia@gmail.com. Federated players from other chess clubs are also required to request an invitation in order to participate.
The tournament will be played with a fast time control of 5 minutes with no increment, ensuring dynamic and exciting games suitable for players of all levels. Participation is limited to 30 players, so early registration is strongly recommended. The registration deadline is January 9th, 2026 at 8:00 pm.
One of the main attractions of the tournament is its prize structure. In addition to awards for the overall classification, the best female player and the best Under-16 player, the club places special emphasis on encouraging non-federated players. For this reason, the top non-federated player will receive a 20% discount on the federated club membership fee for the 2026 season, while the second best non-federated player will receive a 15% discount.
These discounts are exclusively for non-federated players and are not applicable to already federated players. However, they do apply to non-federated players who are members of the Escacs Balàfia Chess Club, as an incentive to become federated next season. Prizes are not cumulative.
After the tournament, the club will hold the official dinner to mark the start of the 2026 season, a perfect opportunity to share time together, strengthen bonds and begin the new chess year in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
