Active weekend for the Balàfia Chess Club
This past weekend was full of activity and emotions for the Balàfia Chess Club, with two of its players competing in different tournaments and proudly representing the club. David Monzonis Quil took part in the 5th International Open “Ciutat de Mollerussa”, a rapid tournament played at a time control of 15 minutes plus 5 seconds per move, part of the Catalan International Open Circuit. With over 130 participants and a demanding schedule of nine rounds in a single day, David showed a bold and competitive playing style against a variety of opponents. His perseverance and desire to improve were evident in every game, and this experience is a valuable step forward in his development as a player in a format that requires speed, precision, and mental endurance.
Meanwhile, Ricard Bringué represented the club at the 2nd International Open “Vila Olímpica”, a blitz tournament held in Barcelona with a 5-minute time control and nine total rounds. Despite the smaller field —only 42 players— the competition level was strong, and the ultra-fast pace added an extra layer of intensity and excitement to every round. Ricard delivered an excellent performance, scoring 6 out of 9 points and leaving a great impression. His ability to think fast under pressure and stay calm in critical moments was key to achieving this solid result, reflecting his steady improvement and current good form.
From the Balàfia Chess Club, we’d like to congratulate David and Ricard for their dedication, effort, and strong performances this weekend. Tournaments like these are essential for gaining experience, improving our level, and above all, enjoying the game we love — chess. We’re proud of your commitment and encourage you to keep competing with the same passion.
Taking part in tournaments is one of the best ways to grow as players and as a club. We encourage all our members to keep playing, learning, and enjoying chess every chance they get!
